2003 Village Runner 10K

Report by: Eric Barron

The South Bay celebrated America's birthday with its own 5K and 10K in Redondo Beach. People were generally disappointed with their times, but the courses themselves were not particularly difficult. Instead, they were long, and the times are likely many seconds slower than what they would be on an accurate course. For example, Chris DeWitt can probably run an 18-minute 5K in his sleep, but we know he was awake for the race. Ogie Espinosa also ran the 5K and he, too, is faster than his result. Likewise, Simien Bayati and Helen Cullington will be happy to know that they can look forward to better times at the next 5K. In the longer race, Bruce Hoff took second in his division, Erik Wiesmann took third in his division, and Michelle Chille must have been out for the fun of it.

Average Finishing Time: 43:48
