Westwood Benefit for Stroke Research 5K 05/29/99
By Eric Barron (with Peggy Sauve-Enriquez reporting from the
field)
It is not often, and often never, that any of us gets to have
the exciting feeling of being the first man/woman to cross the
line. To get that feeling, however, one thing you have to do
is race. Meschelle spent the week debating about whether she
would run the above-titled 5K, and finally decided to do so.
Good thing she did because her 21:14 was good enough for first
overall woman. The time is even better than it seems because
the route is mainly uphill (those of you who have run the
Terry Fox/John Wayne Cancer Research 5K have a good idea of
the size of the hill).
Kim also ran and took third in her age division and fourth overall
woman with a 22:05. Also, Jill, who has a total of one track workout
under her belt, finished around 26:00. Although the race was small,
they provided great food afterwards and lots of it: Bagels, muffins,
fruit, juice and tons of give aways. Next year, go run, watch
Meshelle defend her title, and dig the food.
