Matt Crowe, the fastest middle distance runner the club has ever had, made a really neat watch face display for TCLA that people can download and install via the Garmin IQ Connect store. Here is the link to the app: TCLA watch. Anyone with a Garmin watch can connect it with a usb cable to their computer, open Garmin Express, then click the sync button on Garmin Express to download the TCLA app which should be in the download queue.

2019 Brentwood 5K TCLA Results
The Ojai Marathon is rapidly approaching this Sunday (weather forecast of 63/55 with rain). Vegas, I mean Brentwood, has released betting lines for the event for all known TCLA affiliates participants. Since Ojai is a super fast course, if Mahurin sets a WR on Sunday, it technically won’t qualify … (Over/under line noted in parenthesis next to each runner):
Tim Peterson (3:32) – TCLA’s own “Benjamin Button” came off the retirement shelf in February and logged a 3:40 in the Carlsbad marathon. It’s a short turnaround for Tim (less than 4 months), but he’s once again a lean, mean fighting machine and anyone who’s tried keeping pace with the club architect climbing the mountainous terrain of SV is probably betting the “under”.
Yari Fontebasso (2:59) – His stated goal is to “break 3” and apparently women not only weaken legs (attribution: “Mick” from Rocky 1), but tying the knot can be a de-motivator for marathon racing. Difficult line to set as 2:59:00 is a pedestrian pace for the Italiano, so Brentwood is limiting all bets on Yari to the monetary equivalent of a cappuccino + biscotti. He appears to have no issue “losing” to Mahurin despite some coaxing by the aforementioned MM
Sarah Linke (3:20) – Very limited data on Sarah in terms of running, training or whether she adopted the Fontebasso name in any fashion. Perhaps she hyphenated? Linke-Fontebasso? No, she probably didn’t do that. I digress … Earlier this decade, I recall Sarah being roughly a 3:10 +/- marathoner, but that was … well, earlier this decade when she was unmarried and, like the rest of us, younger and faster …
Mike Mahurin (2:52) – Highly anticipated, and much talked about main event (and I mean MUCH talked about!). He may not be Tucson 2008 ready, but this near semi-centennial has been logging 100+ mile weeks and has no ready to go injury excuse teed up. Mahurin has not broken 2:50, however, in a decade .. If he can control his infamous, volatile bowels, Mahurin may very well break the elusive 2:50 barrier which ensures the next decade of TCLA Saturday AM runners will be regaled with endless stories of his Ojai 2019 conquest. On a positive note, this would will replace re-runs of his 2008 Tucson tale (which, at this point, is kind of like watching Shawshank Redemption for the 36th time on the AMC channel .. great movie, but we all know how it ends).
Special Mahurin “Prop” Bets:
# Bathroom breaks – 1.5 (over/under)
# Runners he flips off or curses at during race– 2.5 (over/under) (note: this excludes pre-race altercations in corral, warm up area or around port-a-potty)
# Well-intentioned spectators he flips off or curses at after they yell encouragement – 4.5 (over/under) (note: telling a cheering spectator to eat another's private parts counts as a curse even if no swear words are used)
DNF Odds – 5:1 (big question is what would Mahurin do if he is at mile 22 and on a 3:02 pace … I mean, is there any point to living life if you can’t break 3:00?)
Sub 2:50 Odds – 5:2 (my money is on MM pulling it off)
Special Yari/Sarah Prop Bet:
Yari and Sarah cross finish line holding hands – 2:1
